An area I believe is important to highlight is research on infectious diseases, their complications, and patterns of disease progression across the lifespan. Over the past two decades, my work has focused on understanding how infectious diseases evolve over time, how treatment and prevention strategies alter their trajectories, and how downstream complications can be anticipated and prevented.
Although much of my work has centred on HIV, the foundation of my research is methodological and broadly applicable to other infectious and chronic conditions. I use advanced epidemiology, biostatistics, causal inference, and mathematical modelling to examine disease progression and long-term outcomes, as well as the population-level impact of interventions. This includes studying how infections interact with other conditions, how complications emerge, and how evidence can be translated into policy and clinical decision-making. Quote from Dr Vivane Lima
