About the program
The UBC Division of Infectious Diseases is committed to global education and capacity building through its International Trainee Programs. These programs offer sponsored international physicians the opportunity to gain advanced training in adult infectious diseases within a rigorous academic and clinical environment. International trainees work alongside Canadian residents and fellows, contributing to a diverse learning environment while acquiring skills that support infectious diseases care in their home countries.

Eligibility Criteria
To be considered, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be visa‑sponsored by an approved sponsoring agency
- Be sponsored from Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, or an approved institution. See Internationally-Sponsored (Visa) Trainees
- Be currently enrolled in a Canadian Internal Medicine residency program (preference given)
- Meet UBC English Language Proficiency requirements
- Submit a sponsor letter confirming full funding for the training period
- Submit a complete application package through their sponsoring agency
Application Materials
Applicants are required to submit:
- Personal letter of interest
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- A minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 letters of reference
- Proof of English language proficiency, if applicable
Incomplete applications or late submission of English language documentation will not be considered.
Preference is given to applicants who are currently enrolled in a Canadian Internal Medicine Program
English proof must be submitted by the deadline, or the application will not be considered.
Application deadline: August 17, 2026 for a July 2027 start date.
