
Leung, Dr. Daniel
Dr. Leung is Professor at the University of British Columbia and holds the BC Children’s Hospital Professorship in Global Child Health. He is a graduate of UBC (BSc ’98, MSc ’01) and Wake Forest University (MD ’05). He completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Washington, and a Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center / Harvard Medical School. From 2010 to 2014, Daniel lived in Dhaka, Bangladesh, working on diarrheal disease immunology as a joint research fellow of Massachusetts General Hospital and the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b). His current research focuses on the immunology, microbiology, epidemiology, and clinical management of diarrheal diseases, as well as the role of the microbiome in mucosal infections. He has mentored over 80 trainees, authored 160 peer-reviewed publications, and is a recipient of the Bailey K Ashford medal from the American Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene.
