Research interests

As Director of STD/AIDS Control, BCCDC, Dr. Rekart directs the public health response to HIV and other STD outbreaks in BC. He has recently been awarded a $2 M grant from the Canadian Institues for Health Research to study, develop, and implement prevention strategies to decrease HIV infection among men who have sex with men.

Dr. Rekart is also involved in the development of STD control programs abroad. In the fall of 1998, Dr. Rekart received a Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) grant to train, support and monitor an STD clinic and outreach program in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. In the summer of 2001, Dr. Rekart and his team were awarded a $5 M grant from CIDA to expand their program into the Mekong Delta region of southern Vietnam.
